UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People delayed

On November 28, the UN decided to delay the adoption of the long awaited Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.  The delay was proposed by African nations but it is suspected that behind the scenes work of the United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia led to this new objection to the Declaration.

Indians and Queen Elizabeth II

In November, representatives of the Mohegan Tribal Council presented a peace pipe to Queen Elizabeth II.  The Queen and the Tribal Council were attending a funeral blessing for the Mohegan Sachem Mohamet Weyonomon who died of smallpox in 1736 when he was in England petitioning George II for the return of lands taken by British colonists.

Washington state supreme court upholds tribal sovereign immunity
