Senator Dorgan probes Spirit Lake business

February 29th, 2008

“Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota), the chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, is seeking an investigation of a manufacturing company owned by the Spirit Lake Nation of North Dakota.

Dorgan asked the Department of Defense to look into Sioux Manufacturing Corp. He is concerned that the company manufactured faulty equipment for American soldiers.

Two former employees filed a false claims case, alleging the company didn’t comply with military standards. The Department of Justice settled the case for $1.9 million but no wrongdoing was admitted.”

The two employees filed, not a ‘false claims’ case as stated above, but rather a well documented (tapes and documents) proving that SMC was cheating on the specifications for the armor our soldiers need to save their lives.

One does not settle with ‘false claims’ filers for more than $1million (almost 2). One gets those cases dismissed. This one was settled. It really should be investigated as contributing to the injury and death of our soldiers… but we all remember the Bush DOJ. Gutless and all for the corporate hogs
