Rosebud Sioux Tribe plans renewable energy conference

In April 2010, a renewable energy conference will introduce new technologies of renewable energy into Native American communities and homes.

“Renewables on Tribal Homelands: A Rosebud Sioux Tribe Renewable Energy Conference” will be held April 28-30, 2010, at the Rosebud Casino & Hotel on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. It will highlight ways for Indian reservations nationally to reduce energy costs, the new family and facility-scale alternative energy projects being used to address these problems, and developing a Native American renewable energy industry.

The Rosebud Reservation has been at the forefront of tribal renewable energy development. At the conference, participants will tour multiple sites on the reservation, including solar heater installations, a straw bale house and the Little Thunder Project, a multiple renewable energy applications site at the home of Rosie Little Thunder. The site features renewable energy applications including a windbreak, shade trees, a solar air heater, photovoltaic panels and a small-scale wind turbine.

The conference is open to all people and tribes. It is sponsored by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe; Trees, Water & People; Lakota Solar Enterprises and the National Renewable Energy Labs.
