Salmon returning after dam removal

The removal of the dam on the Elwah River in Northwestern Washington state about five months ago has already resulted in salmon returning upriver! The National Park Service is hailing the "return of the kings" (adult Chinook salmon). The salmon have been spotted spawning in Olympic National Park less than five months after removal of the Elwah dam that became operational in 1913.
Indian Country Today reports that the drawdown of the reservoir that was behind the dam has also uncovered the tribe's creation site, a sacred site. Human use at this site dates back 8,000 years. Indian Country Today, Sept. 12, 2012, at 18.
