Chinook Nation of Washington state seeks federal recognition
October 31st, 2007
The Chinook Nation, located in Washington State on the Long Beach peninsula, is going to Washington D.C. November 4-7th to appear before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee to seek recognition by the federal government of its status as an Indian nation. Â
It is an accident of history that this tribe and these people, who greatly assisted the Lewis & Clark expedition, are not federally recognized today. If you want to contact a senator, here is their Contact informationÂ
To learn more about the Chinooks visit the Chinook Nation website or the Lewis and Clark Rediscovery Project website.

I am a Chinook Member. We need to be a federal
recognized tribe. My mother Louise G Fuller was taken to Chamawa Indian boarding School for her 9th and 10th grades of education. For if she is Indian so am I. I have been going to Chinook Indian council meetings all my life. We are very much alive and need to be recognized just like all the other Indian tribes in the northwest. I am a direct decendant of our great Chief Comcomly. I have a tribal member number with the tribe and prey it will happen in my life time. My Mothers dream did not happen in her lifetime. For she is with the creator.
Thank you
Masi
