Oregon Labor and Employment Law

The always-on-it Oregon Legal Research catches the return to posting of the Oregon Labor and Employment Law blog. It is edited by Lewis & Clark Law School alum Tom Doyle , who specializes in labor and employment law at Bennett Hartman Morris & Kaplan, LLP.

While we’re on the topic of labor and employment law, readers may be interested in Willamette University College of Law Professor Ross Runkel’s Employment Law Blog and Arbitration Blog. Nationally, there is the well regarded Workplace Prof Blog, as well as many more labor and employment law blogs.

Students and faculty at Lewis & Clark Law School also have access to a number of specialized current awareness resources in labor and employment law. Professor Runkel’s group at LawMemo.com provide three employment-law related email alert services: Employment Law Memo (M,W,F), NLRB Law Memo (Weekly), and Arbitration Law Memo (Monthly). L&C Law students may find out more and enroll for any or all of those at our LawMemo Sign-Up page.

The Lewis & Clark Law School community also has access to the many labor and employment law reports provided by BNA (the Bureau of National Affairs). Among the leading titles available are the Labor & Employment Law Library, Benefits Practice Center, Labor Relations Week, and all of the BNA labor-related reports. These are all top-notch industry-leading research and current awareness tools. Find the BNA labor and employment law databases at the Boley Law Library’s BNA Databases home.

Finally, students, faculty and staff at Lewis & Clark Law School may receive regular e-mail updates from any of the BNA employment and labor law services, all of which are part of the Boley Law Library’s subscription. Find out more, and enroll for as many as you like at our BNA E-Mail Updates center.

Sexual Orientation and the Law Blog

Sexual Orientation and the Law Blog

The Law Professor Blog Network this month has added one more faculty-edited blog to its impressive (and highly ranked) collection of over four dozen law professor blogs, Sexual Orientation and the Law Blog.

The blog’s initial post, Introduction — Defining “LGBTIQ” (lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/intersexed/queer) sets out the goals of this new blog:

Legal issues involving sexuality and gender identity constitute an emerging and rapidly growing field. Law professors who teach in other areas may increasingly find themselves having to address LGBTIQ issues. As the initial post for this web log on LGBTIQ legal issues, we provide an overview that describes something of the range of issues, and an explanation of what “LGBTIQ” stands for.

. . .

In addition to transgender issues, common topics for future posts, covering issues for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and intersexed persons as well, will include family law, employment discrimination, military service, federalism, the First Amendment, immigration, and prisons. Future introductory posts will define “intersexed” and “queer.”

Sexual Orientation and the Law Blog is edited by Sara R. Benson, Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois College of Law, and William B. Turner, Visiting Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Law.

Tips for 1Ls From Around the Blogosphere

August 22nd, 2007

With the new school year beginning here at Lewis & Clark Law School – first year orientation arrives this week – time for BoleyBlogs!’s annual collection of links to tips for 1Ls.

During orientation many tips for a successful first year will be shared, both formally and informally. Here are sources for a few other tips and hard-learned lessons that might come in helpful the next few days, weeks and months:

Finally, don’t forget two of our local favorites: (1) please feel free to rely on your local law librarian for help, a good ear, and where to find a good bike, meal, microbrew or park; and (2) be sure to take time for yourself and your family.
