Nice Changes to Cornell LII’s United States Code

December 10th, 2007

Cornell Legal Information Institute (LII) U.S. Code Collection

Cornell LII has made some important changes to their U.S. Code Collection, returning it to the top of the list of premier free sites for the U.S.C.

The main change is a vastly improved update feature. The Cornell LII U.S.C. uses the most recent official version of the United States Code. That means that as of today the text of each Code section is only current up to Jan. 2, 2006. Until now Cornell LII had a semi-functional update feature that was quite awkward to use.

That has all changed. Now simply go to your code section, then click the updates link on the right. It will show you all of the changes to your section of the code made since the official version was released to within one business day, and include links to the Public Laws affecting your statute from GPO Access.

For example, check out 18 U.S.C. 207 (Restrictions on former officers, employees, and elected officials of the executive and legislative branches). A good read, but is it up to date?

Of course not. So, click on the updates link on the right and see all the changes made since January 2006.

One other change to the Cornell LII U.S.C. – PDF versions of each section. No, they are not PDF images of the actual U.S.C. published by the U.S.A., but they are excellent printouts of the code. Coming soon, the ability to print multiple sections at once.
