TWEN At L&C
TWEN, The West Education Network, is one popular option available at Lewis & Clark Law School for providing course materials online. TWEN enables faculty to quickly and easily "create and manage courses online, access and post course materials in document pages, create assignments that your students can receive and submit, organize and participate in class forum discussions, administer online quizzes, exchange e-mails with other professors and students, and more."
All Lewis & Clark Law School faculty and adjunct faculty may create a TWEN page by logging into TWEN with their Westlaw password and clicking
Create New Course. Alternatively, Rob Truman in the Law Library is happy to assist you in creating a TWEN course or in reviewing the other online course options available here at Lewis & Clark Law School. Contact Rob via phone (503-768-6780), email (rtruman@lclark.edu), or on campus (Wood Hall room 215).

TWEN Changes: Recent New Features
2007 - 2008
- Active and Hidden Courses
Courses are now separated into Active Courses and Hidden Courses, which contain inactive or archived courses
- Add/Drop a Course
We have separated the Add/Drop Course functionality
- Entry Points
You can access a course home page through multiple entry points
- Sort Courses
You can sort courses based on term, course name, instructor, and access type.
Note: Big changes are due for the 2008 - 2009 school year, including much better auto-formatting for the web, improved discussion boards and document pages, and more.
2006 - 2007
- Single Sign-On
Login to either Westlaw or TWEN and now there is a link taking you to the other.
- InstaPoll
Create on-the-fly polls during class. You ask the question, then have students respond via the InstaPoll link on your TWEN home page. One large drawback: all (or at least most) students must have a computer in class and be logged into TWEN. More info & how-to images.
- Customized Polling
More powerful and flexible than InstaPoll. Customized Polling allows you to create specific polls, complete with posted text. You can save the poll, save the results, leave poll open for a set amount of time to your students, and present results in a bar graph or pie chart. More info & how-to images.
- Master Calendar
Combines calendar events (exams, assignments, readings, etc.) from all of your TWEN courses. Particularly helpful when you have more than one TWEN course. More info & how-to images.
- Sign-Up Sheet Changes
New options have been added to TWEN's sign-up sheet function. You may now automatically receive an e-mail when a student signs up for a slot, restrict students from removing their names once signed up (so that they have to contact you first...), and restrict students from viewing other students' names. More info & how-to images.
- Time-Specific Events
Course calendars now display the start and end date of time-specific (versus all-day) events. More info & how-to images.
- WestCheck Citation Checking
Faculty may now choose to enable or disable WestCheck citation checking for any individual document page or forum.
- Lookup Feature
Quickly register other TWEN users as students or co-teachers for a course.
