Off-Campus Link Generator

This page contains a handy form for creating work-from-anywhere links to articles found on law school subscription databases like HeinOnline. It also follows with quick tips for creating direct links to documents and searches on Westlaw and LexisNexis.

Other options: (1) many law reviews now provide all recent articles online, along with blanket permission to use for academic purposes (see, for example, our own LC Law Review's copyright policy); and (2) pre-print versions of articles are often available on SSRN, bepress or other open repositories. Just search by title, author, etc. in Google or Bing.

1. Create Links to L&C Law Library Databases Such as HeinOnline

Use this link generator to create shareable links to articles in our subscribed databases such as HeinOnline, LegalTrac, Legal Periodicals Full Text, BNA and more. (See below for Westlaw, LexisNexis.)

Paste your source URL here:

Copy and use the resulting link:

Right-click the highlighted link, choose 'Copy'

Need your students to be able to read an article from one of our subscription journals or databases whether they are on or off-campus? Paste your original link in the top box and click the "Create link" button. Our Link Generator creates links that will work for the L&C Law Community wherever they are located.

E-mail the new link to your students, post in TWEN or Moodle, or paste into a document.

Notes:

  • You do not need to do this for freely available sites (such as SSRN) or links that already begin with http://lawpx.lclark.edu/
  • This tool requires javascript enabled in your browser to work

2. Westlaw Links

Need to create links to Westlaw materials? Whether to cases, statutes or law review articles, here's how:

  1. Go to the WestlawNext and Westlaw Classic Link Creator
  2. Choose which kind of link you wish to create (typically "to a document"), enter citation, click the "Create Link" button
  3. Right-click on the link and choose "Copy Link Location" or "Save Link As"
  4. Paste link into your document or site.

If using TWEN go ahead and let Westlaw automatically create links to your citations.

3. LexisNexis Links

Need to create links to LexisNexis materials? Whether to cases, statutes or law review articles, here's how:
