SpotlightSummer Access to LexisNexis, Westlaw & More
LexisNexis, Westlaw, Casemaker and Loislaw all have special summer access
provisions. Register now and ensure that these legal research databases
are there when you need them.
LEXISNEXISContinuing StudentsLexisNexis offers full access privileges over the summer as long as you certify that your access will be used for one of the following:
"Academic purposes" do not include research conducted for a law firm, corporation or other entity (other than a professor or law school) that is paying the student to conduct said research or that is passing along the costs of said research to a third party. These are deemed "commercial purposes". Read the complete Policy on Use of LexisNexis Law School Educational IDs. Register for LexisNexis Summer Access here. If you do not register, your LexisNexis law school ID will be limited to only career materials as of June 1, 2008. Questions? Contact our LexisNexis Representative or a Boley reference librarian. Graduating StudentsGraduating students can sign up for summer access privileges as well. Graduating IDs will be extended to August 1, 2008. Use is subect to the same terms as continuing students face, above. Questions? Contact our LexisNexis Representative or a Boley Reference Librarian.
Continuing StudentsL&C Law students may register for full Westlaw summer access as long as you are requesting access for one of the following:
*"I understand that using my Westlaw student password to provide research for entities such as Law Firms/Government Organizations/Entities serving the District of Columbia/Corporations /Paid or For-profit Internships/Externships/Public Interest/Non-graduation required Pro Bono is not an educational purpose and is strictly prohibited. Just like with LexisNexis, summer access is subject to the terms and conditions of the Westlaw Law School Student User Agreement (pdf): Forget to register for summer access? You will still have a total of 2 hours of Westlaw research time before it deactivates. Questions? Contact our Westlaw Account Manager or a Boley reference librarian. Graduating StudentsGraduating 3Ls/LLMs passwords expire at the end of May. You can receive extended time on your Westlaw password this summer to study for the bar exam. All you need to do is fill out the WestlawRewards Graduate Survey. Please note, this password will not allow you to print at the Westlaw printers at school. Questions? Contact our Westlaw Account Manager or a Boley reference librarian.
Continuing StudentsLoislaw, located at loislawschool.com, is an electronic legal research system that provides low-cost access (free to L&C Law students) to state and federal case law, statutory law, constitutions, administrative law, court rules, and other authority. Your Loislaw password remains valid throughout the summer. To sign up for Loislaw:
Graduating Students Graduating students have full access to Loislaw for six months following graduation - with no limits on commercial use. It is not too late to register for Loislaw. Just follow the instructions above.
