SPOTLIGHTExam Fever
Now that exam time has returned, the Boley Law Library is once again providing the study-friendly services you have come to depend on. Extended Study HoursThe library remains a fine and quiet place to study during exams. Need a bit of extra time? From Saturday, April 26th to Friday, 9th the Law Library will remain open from 7am to Midnight. On Saturday, May 10th the library be open from 9am to Midnight. View the full listing of library hours. For those who study best under the pre-dawn fluorescent glow of artificial lights, never fear: Wood Hall remains open to students even after the library has closed for the night. Just make sure that you have your ID card with you -- the library doors and all entrances are locked when Boley shuts down, but you may enter using your card at the main Wood Hall entrance. Leaving late? Please be sure to walk with a companion. Campus Safety reminds all students, faculty, and staff that officers are available 24 hours a day to escort individuals between campus locations; call extension 7777 (503-768-7777) for this service. Study AidsA plethora of study aids for a variety of classes is on reserve at the Circulation Desk, available for 3-hour checkout. Among your choices are items from the Nutshell series, Emanuel's Outlines, Gilbert's Law Summaries, Roadmap Law Course Outlines, the Understanding series (Understanding Civil Procedure, Understanding Remedies, etc.), the Concise Hornbook series and the Examples and Explanations series. Many students find study aids to be helpful for understanding classroom topics as well as in exam preparation. Because of the high demand for these materials we do not renew any reserve items during the reading period and final exams. However, students may check an item out again if after 1/2 hour they return and the item is still on the shelf. Coffee, Snacks and GamesThe library will be providing free coffee in the evenings and on the weekends for the duration of finals in the Boley Library lobby. Look for the coffee to begin flowing on April 29. Coffee service will begin at 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday. We will be supplying healthy snacking opportunities each weekday night starting on Tuesday, April 29 through Friday, May 9 in the lounge area of Wood Hall. Snacks are available Monday through Friday at 7pm, Saturday and Sunday at 3pm. Plus, be sure to visit our bookshelf-of-games to exercise the other side of your brain. Our collection of toys and like distractions will be on the book shelves just outside the Patent & Trademark room, by the entrance to Wood Hall. Exams DatabaseLaw School exams from past years are available via the Web for viewing and printing. The collection consists of the actual exams given to students in previous years. Time to Be KindAs exams loom, here is a gentle reminder about noise in the library and in Wood Hall. Please remember that everyone is feeling a little anxious this time of year. You can help each other reduce some of those stress levels by demonstrating the following courteous behaviors. Turn off your cell phone; everyone will appreciate your thoughtfulness if you do. If you find yourself involved in a conversation that lasts more than a couple minutes, move your discussion to a public area. And finally, although the study rooms are designed for group use, please be aware that they are not soundproof and loud discussions make your fellow students studying quietly at nearby tables, a little grumpy. SecurityAs always, keep an eye on your laptops, phones, backpacks, jackets and other personal belongings. When spending much of your day in the library it is natural to leave your belongings on a desk in the library or in the Wood Hall study area or study room when taking a short break. Unfortunately, it is all too easy for those items to be quickly taken. See also this Safety Update. |
