500,000 Volume Celebration Comes to an End

April 28th, 2005

Peter Nycum with and Ron and Jewel LansingSunday’s program was a fitting and successful end to our year long 500,000 Volume Celebration. Ron and Jewel Lansing gave a wonderful talk about famous early Oregon trials. Their discussion was followed by a champagne reception where Ron Lansing presented the Library with his new work, Nimrod: Courts, Claims and Killing on the Oregon Frontier as the Library’s “symbolic” 500,000 volume to reside in the Peter Nycum Rare Book Room.

The success of all of our events over these past months is the result of a collaborative effort among a number of people. It could not have been achieved without the wholehearted support and efforts of the entire Boley Library staff and friends of the Library.

Group Study Rooms: A Public Service Message

April 26th, 2005

As exams loom, here is a gentle reminder about group study room etiquette. The key to this reminder is the word “group.” The ten study rooms get a real workout during finals. During the school year, when the rooms are in less demand, many people use the rooms for individual quiet study areas. However, now that we are closer to the exam period, the rooms are truly required for their intended use: a place for groups to study and converse.

Please be sure to abide by both the spirit and letter of the law as it applies to group study rooms. The rules are posted on all study rooms; please note these in particular:

  • you may sign-up to reserve the room for your group for one three hour period per day.
  • if you are studying alone and a group needs the room, you will need to leave and find a carrel or table instead.
  • if you show up for a study group, and your group does not appear after 15 minutes, you may be asked to leave by another group.

To help reduce any exam-induced stress, the Law Library will again be providing free coffee and our stress-reducing toy and puzzle collection, as well as sponsoring snack-filled study breaks. Look for postings about scheduled study break events in the library and on the web site, http://lawlib.lclark.edu/

Best of luck with finals,

Prof. Peter Nycum
