Snow Worries? How to Find School Closure Info

November 30th, 2005

Wondering if the Law School and, thus, the Law Library are closed? Here’s how to find out:

1. Call the Snow Line: 503-768-SNOW (7669) or 503-768-7965 (SWOK?)

2. Go to the College’s web site, www.lclark.edu

3. Listen to these radio stations:

4. Watch these television stations:

The announcement will say “Lewis & Clark College” only and will apply uniformly to the law school, the graduate school and the College of Arts and Sciences. In the event of delayed opening, the College as appropriate will announce “opening delayed until 9:30 a.m.” or “morning classes canceled until 11:30 a.m.” or “evening classes will be held/canceled beginning at 5 p.m.” Regularly scheduled classes that begin at or after these times will meet.

Finally, you can always check the Palatine Hill Weather Station for the precise conditions on our fair hill. The weather station is a service of the College’s Department of Physics.

Campus Safety Alerts

November 30th, 2005

Bill Curtin, Director of Campus Safety, sends this campus safety alert. Please remember to keep an eye on your laptops, phones, backpacks, jackets and other personal belongings while studying in the library, Wood Hall public areas and study rooms.

Campus Safety would like you to know that coats and jackets are again the target of theft in both the Watzek and Boley Libraries here at the College. The victims of these thefts leave their coat or jacket hanging on the back of their chair, leave their chaired-study area, usually for a very brief time, and return to find their coat or jacket missing. In one case a wallet was left in the jacket pocket and personal identification is now exposed to fraud.

Also I-Pods are the target of recent theft reports to our office. Two have been taken from unlocked residence hall rooms. Take care of your I-Pod. They are very easy to steal and, as I always tell people in these alerts, be sure to lock your residence hall room door when you are not there.

Unfortunately a very serious crime happened last Friday night to a Lewis & Clark student while off campus. He was the subject of an armed robbery at the US Bank ATM machine on Terwilliger Blvd. where it intersects with Barbur Blvd. This incident occurred at 8:30 pm, after dark. What appeared to be a shotgun was pointed at the student and he was asked to throw his wallet toward the perpetrator, which he wisely did. He lost his personal identification and a small amount of cash. I would recommend that you take care of your banking transactions during the daytime hours. We also have ATM machines available for use on the second floor of Templeton Student Center [ed. The law campus has an ATM located in the Boley Law Library copy room].

Remember to report all suspicious and/or criminal activity to the Campus Safety Office by calling x7777.
