Library Construction Update – Reading Room Closed From July 25

July 21st, 2006

Construction on posts to support the Boley Law Library roof continues apace. Books have been moved off the shelves near the construction sites, and we are ready to begin some serious digging and constructing.

Here are a few important updates to our earlier project timeline. Some of these will disrupt normal library operations:

Reading Room & Stacks Closed
Beginning July 25th the Law Library reading room and stacks will be closed due to the construction. There will be NO access to this area. Library staff will be available to retrieve any requested materials.

Exception: The library reading room and stacks WILL be open August 4th – 7th for Summer Session II final exams.

Main Doors Closed
Beginning Thursday July 27th, the MAIN DOORS to the Library will be closed for construction access. Please use the nearby entrance to Wood Hall for library access.

Alternative (and Air Conditioned!) Places to Study
There are a number of alternative spots on campus to study while the library reading room is unavailable:

  • Wood Hall Reading Room (open 8 – 6pm this weekend, open 24-hours with L&C Law ID)
  • The Student Lounge in the LRC (open 8 – 6pm this weekend)
  • The Watzek Library (hours and map – Watzek is #26)
  • Classrooms – You are welcome to study in any open classroom on the Law School campus whenever a class or other event is not scheduled (open 8 – 6pm this weekend)

All these locations are quiet, comfortably conducive to studying and, perhaps of most importance, nice and cool.

Thanks again for your understanding and patience.

Boley Roof Project – Construction Starts July 19

July 18th, 2006

The roof of the Boley Law Library, sagging a bit over the years, is being shored up. Over the next few weeks four columns will be added – three in the stacks and one near the circulation desk.

There will be some noise and disruption, but we hope to keep it to a minimum. Alternate places to study during this time include the reading room of our own Wood Hall, and the Watzek Library (hours) on the undergraduate campus (#26 on the campus map).

Here is our project timeline:

On Wednesday (7/19) books will be moved from shelves near the three spots in the stacks area of the library and put onto tables and carrels in the library. It will take about 3 days to move all of the books.

On Tuesday (7/25) and Wednesday (7/26) the shelves will be removed. Tuesday evening after the library closes the concrete cutting will begin. We need to cut the floor in Boley to pour some new concrete foundations for the columns.

There will be no work in the library between August 4th and 7th due to summer school finals. We hope to have this project completed by the beginning of school.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.
