Watch Your Belongings

October 9th, 2006

It appears that a law student’s jacket was stolen from the Law Library, and another’s books were taken from a restroom today. Sadly, these are not the first thefts from a campus library this year. Please keep in mind that the library, the law campus, and Lewis & Clark College as a whole are open to the public most hours of the day.

Be sure to lock your laptop (cables available at the L&C Computer Showroom) to your desk at all times, and take valuable items with you when you step away from your study space, even if only for a very short absence.

For more information see this Campus Safety Alert issued by L&C Campus Safety last November.

Want to learn insider tips on how to cross examine witnesses? Looking for guidelines on how to use expert testimony, take a deposition, write an opening statement, or collect evidence?

There are many resources in the library that can help with the “nuts and bolts” of practicing law. This week’s Law Library Research Class series will cover state and federal practice materials that guide attorneys through the trial process, providing analysis of both substantive law and procedural issues. Learn where to go to find litigation checklists, sample forms and documents, practice strategies, possible defenses, tips for handling real-life legal situations, and more.

Dates & Times:

  • Tues., Oct. 3rd, 12:30 pm, Room 1
  • Wed., Oct. 4th, 5:00 pm, Wood Hall Room 7
  • Thurs., Oct. 5th, 12:30 pm, Wood Hall Room 8

The presentation should be about 30 to 40 minutes. You are welcome to bring your lunch or dinner to eat during the class.

Also, any students desiring individual reference help, or who would like a small group presentation on a research topic, can contact the Reference and Research Department at lawlib@lclark.edu, or stop by the desk anytime.
