Feeling the Love at the Law Library

January 30th, 2008

Call us romantics, but with Valentine’s Day just a couple of weeks away we thought it best to mark this most important of holidays. We know that neither candy nor cards are good enough for the denizens of Boley.

Rather, we’ve put together this Valentines Day Book Display – a wistful array of thematically-appropriate books from the Boley Law Library collection.

As always, this display can be found and enjoyed on the wall between the copy room and the Patent and Trademark Library, right by the Library entrance to Wood Hall.

Aphrodite and Cupid’s attorneys would be proud.

LexisNexis Access Returns

January 23rd, 2008

Our campus access to LexisNexis – both the standard LexisNexis Law Schools (student/faculty password access) and LexisNexis Congressional (legislative documents and legislative history) databases – has been restored following approximately 12 hours of slow to nonexistent access.

Through some changes instituted to prevent this sort of thing from happening again, from now on you will probably notice a distinct speedup in accessing LexisNexis Law Schools and LexisNexis Congressional from on-campus.

Remember, if you are ever having difficulties accessing any of our databases from on- or off-campus, don’t hesitate to contact the Law Library reference desk. Either drop by in person, call (503-768-6688) or email (lawlib at lclark.edu).

Martha Minow Resources

January 22nd, 2008

This week Lewis & Clark Law School welcomes Martha Minow as our first Martin Luther King Jr. Speaker. Professor Minow teaches family law, civil procedure and school reform at Harvard Law School.

The Law Library has created a MLK Jr. Day book display with Professor Minow’s books from our own collection, along with a number of other titles on the civil rights movement. As always, this display can be found and enjoyed on the wall between the copy room and the Patent and Trademark Library, right by the Library entrance to Wood Hall.

There you will also find Professor Minow’s handout, Making History or Making Peace: When Prosecutions Should Give Way to Truth Commissions and Peace Negotiations (Journal of Human Rights, forthcoming).

New Statutes, Regs and Government Document Pages

January 17th, 2008

We’ve gone and added a few new pages for researching statutes, regulations and government documents. The old statutes and regulations page was getting unwieldy, so we broke it into coherent pieces, adding new links and weeding out the old.

Now you will find a number of new and improved pages containing links to online free and library subscription resources to meet all your research needs.

Find links to all of these via our Statutes, Regulations & Government Documents home page.
