How to Update Your Westlaw Password
November 4th, 2009Westlaw is instituting new password security requiring more-secure usernames and password for all. This will disable the use of any old Westlaw Passwords (e.g. 1384536VMJB), and folks already with OnePass usernames and passwords will need to update them to meet the new requirements.
Though most have until January 31, 2010 to make the password changeover, those who use the Westlaw “Remember Me” feature to log in must make these changes immediately. The first time you try to log in all your remembered information will be turned off, and you will get an e-mail explaining the new requirements and how to get signed back in.
Follow these steps to return your Westlaw access, or to ensure that your access is not interrupted.
1. Go to the Academic Registration – Update Account page
2. Enter your OnePass Username and Password
- If you have never created a Username/Password enter your 11-character password in the “Westlaw Password” box
- Not sure if you’ve ever created one? Enter your email address at the Manage OnePass Account page
- If you have forgotten your OnePass Username and/or Password (or if it asks for OnePass info even after entering your old Westlaw Password):
– Click the “Forgot your Username and Password” link
– Follow instructions to receive your username and/or password via
email
– Now enter them both in the OnePass Username and Password boxes
3. You should now be at the “Academic Westlaw Registration – Update account” page
- Update or enter a new Username, one which is at least 8 characters and contains at least 2 of the following:
– Uppercase letters
– Lowercase letters
– Numbers
– Any of these symbols: .(period) @(at sign) -(dash) _(underscore)
Tip: User your email address – unique and satisfies these rules - Update or enter a new Password, one which is at least 8 characters and contains at least 3 of the following:
– Uppercase letters
– Lowercase letters
– Numbers
– Any of these symbols: .(period) @(at sign) -(dash) _(underscore)
From now on you will only be able to access Westlaw and TWEN using your new OnePass Username and Password.
