Research Materials to "Launch Your Career": Start Here

Guide for researching future employers, finding information on law firms and lawyers, and library resources for finding a job, preparing for an interview, and starting a legal career.

Purpose of Guide

The purpose of this guide is to supplement the work of Career Services, provide resources to law students to research potential employers, and help students find print and online resources for guidance through the employment process.

Types of Resources

There are many resources for researching potential employers and learning the best strategies to getting a legal job.

Print Materials This list of books guides the user in early search strategies, writing resumes, prepping for interviews, and choosing specific types of law. Each resource is available to be checked out from the Boley Law Library.

Online Resources This list of online resources helps the user research law firms and lawyers. There are also tools for researching areas of law and law firms by geographic location. This page also includes library databases that focus on analytics of law firms based on clients and practice areas. Use these databases to better understand what type of work a law firm does. It can also be used to gain valuable information on clients and the percentage of litigation done in specific practice areas. This information is particularly helpful for interviews and cover letters.

Career Services This page focuses on the resources available to law students from the career services department.

Oregon Resources This page collects several resources and journals that have specific employment information about Oregon and SW Washington.

COVID-19 Career Advice

Career services has a blog dedicated to the unique job circumstances COVID-19 presents to law students and recent law graduates. This blog will keep students up to date with the changing workplace and best practices for the evolving market.
