Lewis & Clark's Office of Equity and Inclusion
Lewis & Clark College honors the liberal arts tradition as a learning community committed to diversity and inclusion. The Office of the Dean of Equity and Inclusion educates, advocates, promotes, and engages the Lewis & Clark community in diversity, equity and inclusion to foster and support a multi-cultural, multi-religious, multi-identity college community where all feel challenged to venture from their comfort zone, feeling supported and a part of the college community, as they grow and learn.

As turbulent events relating to civil rights and social justice have unfolded across the country following the killings of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia, Breonna Taylor in Louisville, and many before them, many are seeking constructive ways to assist people advocating for civil rights and social justice. The resources here include links to social justice organizations, ways to support WCL students, petitions, links to bail funds, news sources, advice for protesters, relevant library sources and more.

Urban League of Portland is one of Oregon’s oldest civil rights and social service organizations, empowering African-Americans and others to achieve equality in education, employment, health, economic security and quality of life.

Organization dedicated to building positive relationships between young Black men and police enforcement.

The Albina Ministerial Alliance Coalition for Justice and Police Reform is working toward these five goals:
1. A federal investigation by the Justice Department to include criminal and civil rights violations, as well as a federal audit of patterns and practices of the Portland Police Bureau.
2. Strengthening the Independent Police Review Division and the Citizen Review Committee with the goal of adding power to compel testimony.
3. A full review of the Bureau's excessive force and deadly force policies and training with diverse citizen participation for the purpose of making recommendations to change policies and training.
4. The Oregon State Legislature narrowing the language of the State Statute for deadly force used by police officers
5. Establishing a special prosecutor for police excessive force and deadly force cases.

Don't Shoot Portland is an organization that uses direct community education workshops, outreach, and legislative change to support its mission.

The mission of the Portland Committee on Community-Engaged Policing (PCCEP) is to work with the Mayor/Police Commissioner, Portland Police Bureau, and Portland's diverse constituencies to solicit and exchange information between the community and Portland Police Bureau (PPB) to achieve the desired outcomes of equitable policing which exceeds constitutional requirements, and meaningful community engagement with and trust in PPB.

Portland Copwatch is a grassroots, volunteer organization promoting police accountability through citizen action.
As part of Peace and Justice Works, PCW adheres to principles of non-violence.

The Portland-Metro People’s Coalition aims to build the collective power of all communities here, particularly those historically denied resources, justice and democratic control over their own lives. We need a government that is transparent, accountable and run by the people to secure economic and social justice and a healthy and environmentally sustainable city, county and metro. To make this vision a reality we intend to engage with the political process from an independent base of power. Our goal is to strengthen popular movements striving for a just, egalitarian and liberatory society for all.
