Boley Blog: Westlaw Precision Begins January 11, 2023

by Meredith Kostek on 2023-01-05T12:11:57-08:00 in Case Law, Legal Research | 0 Comments

The next time you log on to Westlaw, it might look a little different. Westlaw Edge is changing to Westlaw Precision on January 11th and it brings some changes to the look, feel, and function of Westlaw.

What is Westlaw Precision? Westlaw precision allows you to search and filter by legal issue and outcome, fact pattern, motion type and outcome, and more, to quickly find a core set of highly relevant cases. Then use traditional tools to find the rest of what you might need.

This will be a great tool to research, especially once you are certain of your legal issue and have done much of your preliminary secondary and primary source research. One additional caveat, while Westlaw is adding more subject areas, not all legal subjects are represented in Precision. Westlaw will hold virtual trainings on Westlaw Precision over the coming month. Feel free to find a time for training that works for you using this link.

If you are looking for a more familiar set up, Westlaw Edge tools can be found by selecting the Content Type tabs on the top of the page. Here is a video describing how to change the tabs.
